Leading 3PL switches to robotic parcel sorting to keep pace with booming online fashion sales

Lotte Global Logistics – one of Asia’s biggest third-party logistics (3PL) service providers – has introduced LiBiao Robotics’ state-of-the-art tSort parcel sorting technology at its multi-user e-fulfilment facility in Seoul, South Korea.

The investment represents Phase One of a series of improvements that Lotte is making to the Seoul facility that will ensure that the site is more than capable of keeping pace with the demands of clients operating in Asia’s booming online fashion market, which is expected to be worth approximately $600 billion by 2025.

Lotte has worked closely with LiBiao on plans for the development of other key aspects of the Seoul operation and Phase Two of the project is expected to commence shortly.

Costing considerably less than the price of the type of conveyor-based parcel sortation system it has replaced at Lotte, LiBiao’s tSort uses ultra-energy efficient autonomous mobile robots to automatically transfer a wide variety of products and package configurations to the designated divert chute or induction station.

The tSort can be upgraded with the addition or removal of robots, chutes and/or induction stations as necessary. Furthermore, the system’s modular design means tSort is quick and easy to relocate – so 3PL operators such as Lotte can adapt their intralogistics processes to meet the frequently changing needs of their clients as and when required with minimal disruption to the business.

Despite being able to process twice the volume of parcels over any given period, the twin level tSort solution designed and installed by LiBiao for Lotte operates within a notably smaller footprint than the conveyor system it replaces.

Lotte Global logistics is part of the giant Lotte Corporation. Lotte Corporation employs some 60,000 workers in over 90 subsidiary companies that operate globally across a broad range of business sectors from financial services to industrial chemicals. Despite its vast size, Lotte Corporation remains family owned and controlled.
